For years I would attend baby showers and kids parties, bring gifts full of love, soak in all the fun, laugh until our tummies hurt, but I would always go home wishing it was me throwing a bash of some kind. In the months after we found out we were pregnant, dreaming of our baby shower was something I did on the daily. Not because I desperately wanted an over the top soiree, where people would spoil us with gifts and the attention was all on us (although yes there’s some fun in those too) but because it was our opportunity to celebrate this little life baking away after longing for him/her for far too long.
We had an abundance of friends and family shower both babe and I with smiles, cuddles and love like you wouldn’t believe. There was champagne flowing, the most divine food galore and everyone got to see the home that this little baby of ours will be brought back to. With the help of my mummy and sister in law Amy, my vision of the day really came to life with a huge bang!!! Every little detail was captured for us to remember this celebration always (thanks to amazing photographer Clare Bare Bright Photography).
TIPS:
- Make it bright and fun. You don’t need to stick to a traditional theme if that’s not your style- roll with what ever colours you love
- Don’t have too many games. Not everyone gets into the spirit of games so have two or three fun games that gets everyone involved (guess the gender & size, guess size of belly, baby bingo etc)
- Don’t be a control freak (yep that’s me) Let the women throwing you the shower take control and trust that they will throw you a magical day. Give them a list of your desires and let them run with those
- Make sure you remember to sit down during the event- your feet can get pretty sore by the end of the day if you forget! People will come and chat to you, you don’t need to run around to everyone else
Although it makes me a little sad that this journey is almost over as we hit our final stretch, it also is a very exciting/daunting/overwhelming time to think that within the next 8 weeks we will officially become parents and get to meet the wee human we both created.
